[Rei is working the late late shift at a seedy diner all by herself. And by seedy diner, I mean the dining room. That somehow employs people for the duration of the event but really isn't that much different, except all gritty and film noir-y.

SHUT UP IT WORKS SOMEHOW.

She'll be closing up in an hour or so, and in the meantime, she's wiping things down and getting ready. Her inner monologue is pretty quiet for the moment, focused on the mundane tasks of work.]

[ooc: Rei's monologue will appear in italics following her normal speech. But um you probably shouldn't expect her to be thinking much more than she actually says most of the time. :||||]

[The diner. It's seedy and shady, but that's the way things were, are, and had been. If the streets were as good as my instincts, then I'd be out of business. And I wouldn't have the chance to introduce my friend so often. She's the quiet type until someone pisses her off. You don't want to see her when she's upset. She's a close friend all right, and travels with me in my holster.

As I take a seat near another table she's wiping down, I don't think about how she ended up working here. It's not my job. No one's paying me to find out either. The girl working here's also the quiet type. You can see my taste in friends. Another one who I wouldn't want to see upset.

You're still here.

It's Minato. He's armed.

For another hour. [She puts aside the rag and comes closer.]

[I could be miles away and still hear the dot dot dot of inner monologue from this girl. The silence is deafening, but I'm used to it. It's better than having to listen to nervous or hysterical dames. Because when you're in my line of work, you find out most of them are both. But I can't choose my clients.]

No one's caused you trouble?

[Trouble? .... But what would trouble be?]

No one.

[The name of the place is going to change to Trouble with the way things've been going. It's good for business, but not all that great for someone like her.]

Good.

[I'll take her word for it. This diner had a way of making whatever I wanted just show up unannounced. Because suddenly there's tea on the table. My colleagues probably have a slug or two in them by the name of bourbon, whiskey, or some other booze. But that's not my style. Besides, I'm underage anyway.]

Did you want to join me if no one else shows?

[He's one of my favorites. Because of this. So I can try to smile for him.]

Okay.

[That smile's priceless. It's one of those genuine ones, not like from the other girls that smile only because it's a way to get to your wallet. Then when you're onto them, they threaten to either break your heart or break your legs. Or both.

So this beats being cooped up in the office. The food's decent, the atmosphere never changes, and the company's great. So I give her a smile too, something I don't do all that often, but she's an exception.

All right. When your shift's over, I'll walk you home too.

[I don't need the protection, but I understand the sentiment behind it. I give him a nod and go to finish cleaning up. When I'm done with that, I'll join him.]

[I know she's good for her promise. The only other chair at the table's waiting for her and no one else. She's not the type to need protection as I'm sure anyone who's tried to mess with her got a blunt instrument to the head as a reward. Serves them right. But I don't have a case right now, and I get to keep an eye on her too. The entire place is corrupt save for a few like her.

I don't pay her that much attention because some people don't appreciate an audience when they're working. So it's just me and this cup of tea. That damn Asian mafia that's been after me uses the same brand to lure in and recruit members. I think I'll have my close friend have a word with them next time I see them. She does way more talking than I do.

[It's not long before I finish and join him, the table conjuring up a cup of tea for me as well. I don't actually have much I have to do here.

I hold the cup between both hands and sit in silence with him.

[The lady's at the table, so if I'm anything decent, I take off my hat for her. Lucky for her, I probably am. Just as the girl in my holster's loaded, the tea's keeping me loaded. I'm here for a drink, and this is the place to get one.

The silence is just what I need right now to get away from the racket. Noise or crime, take your pick. If it ain't one, it's always the other. One of them my headphones can take care of. Never leave home without them. The other, it's up to me. Good for nothing cops never get anything done around here.

But as it goes, there's no such thing as permanent silence unless you're dead. And we both were.
